Description of the genus

Plants terrestrial or epilithic. Rhizome shortly creeping or erect. Fronds monomorphic, 2-pinnatifid, basal pinnae not or slightly reduced. Veins free, veins of pinnae lobes not meeting below the sinus. Sori linear, exindusiate.

 

Derivation of name:  stegno: covered, gramma: lined; the sori are linear.

Worldwide: c. 15 species, mostly palaeotropical distribution with a few neotropical species.
