Description of the genus

Stem erect, trunk-like. Fronds large, narrowed at the base; fertile segments modified with reduced lamina parts. Sori with outer indusium little differentiated from lamina.

 

Derivation of name:  Dicksonia: named after J. Dickson, English botanist.

Comment: 1 taxon introduced in Southern Africa.

Worldwide: 20-25 species, pantropical
